The Palio del Cerro which takes place on the first Sunday of September, began over forty years ago, takes its inspiration from a traditional horse race carried out in honour of Saint Liberata, patron saint of Cerreto Guidi.
The competitors from the four districts of the town compete in five competitions: tug of war, a race on stilts, race in wooden  tubs used for wine making, throwing of rings (women only) and crossbow shooting.
The prize for the winning district consists in a traditional banner (palio) created every year by a different prestigious artist,

Marina Abramovic - The Cleaner Performance - Palazzo Strozzi, Florence
The Palazzo Strozzi “playbill” has sharpened its contemporary edge in recent years with explosive exhibitions from leading artists like Ai Weiwei and Bill Viola. Continuing in that vein is a highly anticipated Marina Abramović retrospective, spotlighting the Serbian performance artist’s multifaceted work in a range of media—photographs, video, installations and re-stagings of some of her most noted past performances. Abramović is an early pioneer of the performance art genre, known for stretching the physical limitations of the body. Not lacking in pop appeal, she has collaborated with the likes of Lady Gaga and Jay-Z, and her well-known work The House With the Ocean View inspired a Sex and the City episode. Palazzo Strozzi ha affilato gli artigli negli ultimi anni con mostre esplosive di artisti del calibro di Al Weiwei e Bill Viola. Continando nella stessa direzione, estremamente attesa è anche la retrospettiva di Marina Abramović, che illustrerà la performance poliedrica dell'artista Serba con una varietà di media, a partire dalle fotografie e passando per video, installazioni e repliche delle performance passate. Abramović è stata una delle pioniere del genere performance art, conosciuta per aver spinto i limiti fisici dell'artista oltre ogni possibile imamginazione.

L'ultima domenica di settembre l'appuntamento è nel centro storico del paese per ammirare la sfilata dei grandi carri allegorici con spettacoli, balli popolari ma anche degustazioni, mostra mercato del vino e dei prodotti tipici del territorio. 
Impruneta, little borgo on the hills close to Florence, celebrates each year the Grape Festival, magnificent example of peasants traditions. 
The last weekend of September the historical centre will host parades and shows, dances and wine tastings as well as a local wine and products market.
