One day in Carmignano

Among the places in Tuscany that I care about most, there is the small town of Carmignano, nestled among the beautiful hills of Montalbano and inhabited since the Paleolithic. This is a landscape with well-maintained cypress trees, vineyards and olive groves, capable of inspiring artists and offering a breath of fresh air for those seeking to escape city life.

As much as I completely embrace the daily chaos of Florence, the famous city of the Renaissance, it is in the deepest places of the Tuscan countryside like Carmignano that I savor the secrets of Tuscany.

The territory is rich from the artistic and cultural point of view. Here there are villas and residences of the Medici era and, still here, many characteristic events are organized. A famous annual tradition is the Feast of San Michele with the Palio dei ciuchi, an event that takes place at the end of each September, which winds between the four districts of the city (white, blue, yellow, green), one against the another with an unusual race involving donkeys. Every third Sunday in October the sale of their prized dried figs officially opens in a special festival with local producers.
